Let's talk wedding flower budgets. Specifically, the $5,000–$6,000 range.
First, I want you to know that this is absolutely a workable budget for beautiful wedding flowers! You can have a gorgeous bridal bouquet, flowers for your wedding party, statement centerpieces, and a ceremony installation that makes an impact.
BUT (you knew there was a but coming).
Getting the most out of this budget requires some thoughtful decisions. You'll probably need to prioritize a few things, be flexible with others, and understand where your money is actually going.
First, a little perspective on flower pricing
Flowers aren't immune to inflation. In fact, flower prices have increased approximately 35–40% over the last couple of years, and that has made a pretty significant difference in what couples can get for their money.
The flowers we were buying a few years ago simply don't cost what they used to. Add in the cost of supplies, mechanics, transportation, labor, and everything else that goes into producing a wedding, and it's easy to see why floral budgets have shifted.
My philosophy has always been that you don't need the most expensive flowers to create something really beautiful. You need the RIGHT flowers, thoughtfully designed, in the right places.
So, what does a $5,000–$6,000 wedding actually look like?
For this example, let's imagine a wedding with approximately 100 guests, a smaller bridal party, around 8 guest tables, and a relatively simple ceremony design.
Here's one way I would allocate a $5,500’ish pre-tax floral budget.
EXAMPLE WEDDING FLORAL BUDGET
$5,545
Bridal Bouquet - $295
5 petite bridesmaid bouquets - $500
5 boutonnieres - $150
Parent flowers / additional personals: $200
8 table centerpieces - $1,200
Additional reception floral accents - $350
One mini-meadow ground arrangement: $850
Flowers for client-provided bud vases - $300
25% labor and design fee - $950
Delivery and installation - $750
Estimated pre-tax total:
$5,545
This is a pretty good starting point for a 100-person wedding! You have flowers throughout the day, a beautiful bouquet, flowers for your five bridesmaids, centerpieces that feel substantial, and a ceremony arrangement that gets a second life at your reception.
Where you can save without sacrificing the overall look
There are a few places where making small adjustments can make a BIG difference in your final investment.
1. Be flexible with your flower choices.
If you've fallen in love with a particular color palette, overall vibe, or floral aesthetic, there are usually multiple ways to achieve it. You don't necessarily need every single premium flower you've pinned on Pinterest.
For example, if you love a lush, romantic, garden-inspired look, we can use a combination of less expensive seasonal flowers, interesting textures, beautiful greenery, and a few specialty blooms to achieve that same feeling. Instead of filling every arrangement with expensive garden roses, peonies, or dahlias, we can incorporate more economical flowers that give us a similar shape, movement, or color.
2. Provide your own bud vases.
Bud vases are a great way to add flowers to your reception tables without investing in large, elaborate centerpieces. If you already own bud vases or are willing to source your own, that can help reduce rental costs. We can provide the flowers and design them into your vessels. Just keep in mind that this means you'll be responsible for having those vases at the venue and taking them home afterward.
3. Consider handling your own teardown.
If you're comfortable collecting your flowers, gathering your rental items, and returning anything that belongs to us, you may be able to eliminate some of the costs associated with a professional strike or teardown. However, you need to be comfortable taking responsibility for collecting and returning rentals. That means making sure everything is accounted for, packed appropriately, and returned within the required timeframe.
If you'd rather dance, enjoy your party, and leave everything to us, that's totally fine, too. That's what our full-service options are for.
Let's talk about the 25% labor and design fee
One thing I really want couples to understand is that flowers aren't just flowers.
There is a LOT of work that happens before your wedding day, and much of it isn't visible when you walk into your reception. Our 25% labor and design fee covers the time, planning, and hands-on work required to bring your floral proposal to life.
Here's a little peek behind the curtain:
Meetings and consultations: Time spent getting to know you, understanding your vision, reviewing inspiration, and figuring out what will work within your budget.
Administrative time: Building your proposal, creating recipes, sourcing vessels and supplies, coordinating logistics, and managing all the little details.
Touchbases and communication: Answering emails, checking in with you and your planner, confirming changes, and making sure everyone is on the same page.
Flower ordering: Approximately 2 hours dedicated to sourcing and ordering the flowers needed for your wedding.
Flower processing: Approximately 4 hours of unpacking, hydrating, cleaning, trimming, and preparing flowers so they're ready to be designed.
Design and production: Typically 2–3 days of hands-on floral design, creating bouquets, arranging centerpieces, preparing ceremony installations, and getting everything wedding-ready.
Our labor and design fee accounts for the work that happens behind the scenes to make sure your flowers are beautiful, cohesive, and ready when you need them. It's not just a fee for putting flowers in vases. It's paying for the people, experience, time, and expertise that make the entire process happen.
Delivery and installation: there's more to it than you think!
When you see a florist arrive at your venue, unload a few buckets, and start arranging flowers, it might look pretty straightforward.
But here's what you're not seeing.
We're coordinating multiple vehicles to transport flowers, vases, mechanics, candles, tools, ladders, installation supplies, and all the other things that make a wedding come together. We're often working with multiple team members who need to unload, organize, transport, install, and style everything within a very specific timeframe. And we're doing all of this while coordinating with your venue, planner, rental company, and other vendors.
The delivery and installation portion of your proposal accounts for the vehicles, staffing, transportation, unloading, setup, and the time it takes to get everything looking exactly how it should. We're not just dropping off flowers and wishing you good luck. We're making sure everything is where it belongs, looks beautiful, and is ready for your wedding.
A few things that can push your floral budget closer to $7,000–$10,000
While $5,000–$6,000 is an achievable budget for a wedding with around 100 guests and a smaller bridal party, there are certain things that can increase your investment pretty quickly.
For example:
A larger bridal party with 8–12 bridesmaids and additional personal flowers.
An elaborate ceremony installation with multiple arrangements, arches, ground meadows, or large statement pieces, and rentals like pillars or arches.
Floral installations that require additional mechanics, rigging, or specialized setup.
Lots of rentals, including specialty vessels, candleholders, compotes, and other decorative elements.
Multiple reception spaces that require separate floral designs.
Extensive candle packages and additional styling elements.
Full-service delivery, installation, room flips, and end-of-night teardown.
If you want a large bridal party, a statement ceremony installation, lush florals throughout your reception, lots of rentals and candles, and a team that handles everything from setup to teardown, you're likely looking more in the $7,000–$10,000 range.
And that's okay! It's just important to understand what you're prioritizing and what those priorities cost.
Every wedding is different. Your flowers should be, too.
I want to make one thing really clear: there is no one-size-fits-all floral budget.
Two couples can have the exact same guest count and spend completely different amounts on flowers.
One couple might care most about having an incredible ceremony installation and keep their reception tables simple. Another might want flowers on every table, a beautiful sweetheart table, and very minimal personal flowers.
Neither is right or wrong!
If you have a smaller budget, there are absolutely creative ways to get really good flowers. You just might need to be flexible about certain things.
It's about finding the balance between your vision and your investment.
